2016 Outlaws Disc Golf Tournament

Disk Golf Basket

“Disc golf is a sport that anyone can try… All it takes is a couple hours and a few discs that can be purchased at just about any sporting goods store. Disc golfers come from all walks of life and are generally the friendliest people I’ve had the opportunity to meet” (Outlaws Tournament Director Laura Coffey).

The 2016 Outlaws Disc Golf tournament is coming up on September 17-18. For years, the tournament has been held at the Sports Capital of Texas’ beloved Old Settlers Park. The crown jewel of the Round Rock park system, Old Settlers Park is a well-known sports destination. Its 645 acres provide ample space for several recreational pursuits– including disc golf!

Laura Coffey has been the Tournament Director for Outlaws since 2011. The five years prior to that, her husband, Ed Coffey, held the position. As the Tournament Director, you’re responsible for all tournament arrangements including setting up the course, securing sponsors, reporting to the PDGA and arranging for excellent staff, hotels, players and more.

“This year the Double R Disc Golf club has worked hard to coordinate a redesign of several holes on the south course,” Mrs. Coffey explained. “New tee positions and basket positions will enhance the tournament experience for players. This will also be the first time the full 21-hole permanent course will be playable since baskets were removed for the 2015 Christmas light display.”

She also highlighted the tournament’s charitable component.

“Additionally, this year (as with the last two) Outlaws will be a fundraiser for local advocacy and education rescue Love-A-Bull. Being dog lovers ourselves, we are always happy to give back to our community!”

Outlaws is expecting 80 teams (160 players) to kick off the first day doubles. The tournament itself can take up to 175 players. Based on the heart and consideration behind the event, participants can definitely expect a great, challenging competition!

We’ll see you on the course!
