Four years ago today, the Sports Capital welcomed its 3rd premier sports facility to our award-winning lineup! Over 200 tournaments and matches later, the Round Rock Sports Center has also been honored as one of the “World’s Greatest!” Talk about the icing on the cake…
The Sports Center was featured on the television series “World’s Greatest!…” this past month, a show dedicated to highlighting the world’s greatest places, products, people and companies. With over 83,000 square feet of mixed-use space and the ability to seat more than 1,400 spectators, we can see why the Sports Center was an easy choice as one of the world’s greatest sports facilities!
As a part of the filming process, “World’s Greatest!…” crews visited the Sports Capital of Texas and spoke with Round Rock Mayor Craig Morgan about what makes the Sports Center unique and an integral part of the family of sports venues in Round Rock. Director of Round Rock’s Sports Management & Tourism Department, Chad McKenzie, was also interviewed and explained some of the special features at the Sports Center.
In addition to a 52,000-square-foot maple wood court surface that can be morphed into a variety of configurations with motorized nets and lines for multiple sports, the Sports Center also houses 38 high definition screens used for scoreboards, messaging and more, plus in-house concessions and a dining area. The Sports Center features a covered turf field adjacent to the main structure, used for outdoor sports and training programs. This 15,000-square-foot area includes a concessions stand, patio seating and a modern play scape for children.
This state-of-the-art structure hosts over 50 tournaments a year, bringing visitors from near and far into Round Rock, and groups continue to return year after year to the venue for events and training. “We think their story will be meaningful as well as very educational to our viewers,” said Gordon Freeman, executive producer of “World’s Greatest!…”
The Sports Center feature aired on January 8 and January 22 on DirecTV Channel 305 and Dish Network Channel 250. Did you miss it? No worries! Watch it below and celebrate the 4th anniversary of our winning indoor facility!
