Between 1836 and 1850, the Republic of Texas claimed sovereignty over an enormous area of land.

Years later, Jack W. London and two friends decided to retrace those distant borders. Their goal was ambitious. They wanted to journey along and explore the former boundaries of Texas.

Together, the trio traveled across West Texas and along the Rio Grande River. Then, they continued into areas that are now part of the United States.

Along the way, they discovered stories that connect Texas history with issues still discussed today.

London’s journey helped inspire his novel, Dangerous Latitudes, which was released in 2025.

The book explores this fascinating era in Texas history. In addition, London has continued researching the state’s former boundaries.

His upcoming nonfiction book, Audacity, will explore the same subject. It is scheduled for release in January 2027.
