Brushy Creek Crossing

Discover the Historic Round Rock at Brushy Creek

In 1851, a small community formed along Brushy Creek near a large, iconic round rock in the creek.
This natural landmark was a convenient low-water crossing for wagons, horses, and cattle.
The first postmaster named the settlement Brushy Creek.
In 1854, it was renamed Round Rock to honor the famous rock.

The “round rock” still sits near Chisholm Trail Street in Brushy Creek.
Before the first bridge was built after 1890, this rock was a key crossing point.
Native Americans, cattle drives, and stagecoaches used this crossing.
Wagon wheel ruts remain visible on the rock between #2 Chisholm Trail and Brushy Creek.
These ruts show where wagon trains and stone haulers passed from a nearby quarry.

Chisholm Trail was once called Old Stagecoach Road.
Local legend says #2 Chisholm Trail was a stagecoach stop.
Visit Round Rock to step back in time and discover this charming Texas town’s history.
