Dust off your apron and grab your piping bag because That Takes the Cake Sugar Art Show & Cake Competition is returning to the Round Rock Sports Center on February 22 & 23 2020. This annual event hosted by Capital Confectioners invites sugar artists and bakers from around the world to display their impressive sweet creations and share baking wisdom with attendees. You will be blown away by the designs and techniques from pastry chefs, baking enthusiasts, sugar artists, and kids alike. Here are the top 5 things to do at the competition that will be the “icing on the cake” to your visit!

Explore the rows of sweets to see how participants interpreted this year’s theme: Clash of the Cakes (Mythology) in their cookie, cupcakes, sugar, and cake displays. Check out this lifelike cake from last years Wild, Wild West theme. You are not going to want to leave your camera at home for this event.

In the midst of admiring the mythological sugar art, you might even rub elbows with world-renowned sugar artist Julia. M Usher. Julia is hosting her Cookie Art Competition where cookie artists will battle to construct the most jaw-dropping 2-D or 3-D cookie masterpiece. Imagine a life-size King Neptune made entirely of cookies… anything is possible at this magical event!

New to the frosting game? No problem! Stop by one of the vendor booths to learn about the tools that allow bakers to create their impressive designs. Or better yet, give the tools a try for yourself in the workshops open to a variety of skill levels. Learn how to use icing to make colorful unicorn hair in the Unicorn Cookies class, or experience the magic of fondant as you bring a Harry Potter figure to life in the Harry Potter Themed Figures.

Feeling inspired, and want to put your skills to the test? Grab a friend and participate in the “Mystery Box” competition. Attendees are invited to register online beforehand to participate in this fun challenge. Participants will go head to head in creating a creative treat with all of the items in the mystery box. Winners will receive cash and get to keep their mystery box items.

No matter how you spend your time, we are confident that this year’s show will be pretty sweet.
