The Chisholm Trail

Part of the history and lore of Round Rock involves the Chisholm Trail. This popular trading trail was often used for the transportation of cattle from the grazing lands in the Southwest to the markets in the Midwest in the 1800s.

The Chisholm Trail holds a significant place in Round Rock’s history, serving as a vital cattle-driving route during the late 19th century. This trail facilitated the movement of cattle from Texas to Kansas railheads, contributing to the city’s development and legacy.

Round Rock’s location made it a strategic point along the Chisholm Trail, where cattle herds would cross Brushy Creek. The “round rock” in Brushy Creek served as a natural ford, allowing herders to guide their cattle safely across. This crossing point became a notable landmark in the area City of Round Rock.


🌳 Chisholm Trail Crossing Park

To commemorate this rich history, the City of Round Rock established Chisholm Trail Crossing Park in 2003. This 1.51-acre park features several bronze sculptures by Texas artist Jim Thomas, including:

  • The Pioneer Woman

  • The Pioneer Boy

  • The Bell Steer

  • Goin’ to Water

  • The Resting Steer

These sculptures depict scenes from the cattle-driving era and provide visitors with a tangible connection to the past Wikipedia.
