PSA: National French Fry Day is the second Friday of July (July 11th, 2025), making it the perfect excuse to celebrate America’s favorite fried potato. French Fries show up on nearly every menu, and it’s easy to think you’ve tried them all, but we set out to discover fries that are bold and break the mold! From loaded fries with creative toppings to spiral fries on a stick and indulgent truffle fries, we uncovered unforgettable twists on the classic. No wonder Americans devour over 4.5 billion pounds of fries each year; they are just that irresistible!
Finley’s Round Rock
(Loaded Fries)
Finley’s Fries wowed us from the very first bite. We ordered the loaded fries, and they arrived piping hot, piled high with rich, velvety house-made queso, melted cheese, fresh green onions, and a sprinkle of savory seasoning. The best part was the option to add crispy bacon or tender brisket, which we couldn’t pass up. We think we’ve found our new favorite downtown spot when we’re craving a fry fix!
Salt Traders Coastal Cooking
(Chowda Fries)
Fries and clam chowder make an unexpected perfect duo, and Salt Traders gets it just right. Their creamy chowder is packed with tender clams, sweet leeks, and crispy bacon, and served with golden fries that are ideal for dipping into the chowder. Paired with fresh-squeezed lemonade, it’s a comforting, flavorful meal or appetizer that brings a taste of the coast to the table.
Arepitas
(Crazy Fries)
Okay, it might be tricky to spot the fries in this photo, but we promise they’re in there, hiding under a mountain of toppings. At the bottom is a delicious layer of fries topped with your choice of meat, caramelized onions, cheddar, ketchup, mayo, homemade honey mustard, garlic sauce, and crunchy cabbage salad. With protein options like steak, chicken, or Venezuelan pernil, these fries are living their best life, and so will you once you dig in.
Galambos Family Hungarian Food
(Fried Potato Spiral)
Feeling hung(a)ry? One bite of the fried potato spiral from Galambos Family Hungarian Food Truck will hit the spot. This giant, crispy spiral fry is the star of the show, looking like a supersized curly fry straight out of potato paradise, perfectly seasoned and fried to golden perfection. And if you’re craving authentic Hungarian flavors, this food truck does not disappoint.
Kenney Fort Pub
(Chips AKA Fries)
Craving fries with a British twist? Kenney Fort’s hand-cut, triple-cooked chips are crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, and perfect for soaking up every bit of flavor. Pair them with their North Atlantic wild cod, fried in house-made beer batter, for a classic fish and chips experience. For dipping, choose from rich shop curry sauce, classic mushy peas, ketchup, or fresh tartare, each adding a burst of traditional flavor. Want to elevate your chips? Load your chips with spicy chili or smother them in curry sauce and melted cheese, then top them all off with crispy English bacon for a truly unforgettable fry feast. Cheers!
Uncle Buck’s FishBowl And Grill
(Classic Fries)
We couldn’t resist ordering plain fries, just back to basics, because sometimes simplicity is unbeatable. But here’s the twist: we weren’t at your average diner. These fries were served at Uncle Buck’s Fish Bowl & Grill, an underwater-themed bowling alley where you knock down pins surrounded by sharks and shipwreck decor. After our game, we ordered a generous serving, and it arrived hot, perfectly seasoned, and so delicious. Who knew French fry heaven could be found beneath the sea?
Brasas Peruanas
(Lomo Saltado)
Did you know potatoes were first domesticated in Peru over 7,000 years ago? Brasas Peruanas celebrates this rich heritage with Peruvian dishes that let potatoes and fries take center stage. Their mouthwatering Lomo Saltado features tender sirloin seared with onions and tomatoes, wok-tossed until caramelized, then piled on crispy fries with garlicky rice. You can also savor the Bistec a Lo Pobre, with juicy steak, sweet plantains, and a fried egg resting on a bed of fries, served alongside a serving of rice. At Brasas Peruanas, fries aren’t just a side; they’re the heart of the meal.
