Highlighting the local chefs, restaurants, and businesses that rock

Since 1926, Round Rock Donuts has given customers the opportunity to start their days by biting into a piece of Texas history, starting as early as 4:30am! What began as a small, family-owned bakery in Downtown Round Rock soon turned into a must-stop destination through baking innovation. In the 1930s the then owner and baker, Reinhold R. Moehring needed to find a way to get his bakery through the Depression. Moehring “had to get creative on products that would draw people in” and began his work on the donut. After perfecting the recipe, the renowned Round Rock Donut put the bakery on the map and it has only grown in popularity.
A Labor of Love, All Done by Hand

With nearly a century of donut-making expertise, it is no surprise that Round Rock Donuts’ sweet products are delicious and light as air. This perfected, yeasted dough is ensured through an ideal kitchen temperature and precise proofing times. This delicate dough must be cut and shaped by hand rather than by machine. By doing so, Round Rock Donuts is able to give their donuts that iconic oblong shape that helps them stand out from the competition. The same attention to detail is given to the donuts during the frying process. Each donut is individually flipped and checked for a uniform, light yellow ring around the sides. This ring is an indication that the donut is fried evenly to perfection, ensuring that every bite into every donut is just as great as the last.
So… Are They Orange or Yellow?

The unique orange-yellow hue of Round Rock Donuts has brought curiosity from patrons for quite some time. What is it that causes such a unique coloring? “A lot, a lot of eggs!” By using a large quantity of fresh eggs in the dough, Round Rock Donuts come out of the fryer with that iconic color that we all know and love. Bakery manager Deanne explains that she’s “Team Yellow,” but whichever team you’re on, you’re always a winner with a Round Rock Donut in your hand.
The Iconic Texas-Sized Donut

What they say is true, everything really is bigger in Texas! And of course, being the Texas establishment that it is, Round Rock Donuts makes a two pound, 14-inch donut large enough to feed you and several friends. This iconically large donut was featured in one of the first episodes of Man Versus Food, which made it a very popular novelty item. So if you’re visiting with a large group, or super hungry, be sure to order the Texas-sized donut, available in a classic glaze, or covered in your favorite icing.
More Than Just Donuts

This sweet shop offers much more than just their famed donuts. When you walk up to the donut shop, you’ll be greeted by a case filled with eclairs, apple fritters, and a donut shop classic: the cinnamon twist. Of course, you can’t blame Round Rock Donuts for also having a Texas-sized cinnamon roll to go with that giant donut! Are all those sweets making you crave something salty? Not a problem! Round Rock Donuts also offers kolaches to pair perfectly with your confection of choice. What makes these treats unique is that they’re made with the same perfected dough as the donuts, giving them that beloved pillowy texture. And if all of that isn’t reason enough to visit Round Rock Donuts throughout the year, they now have seasonal donuts and coffee flavors that will surprise and delight your taste buds!
Where Texas Hospitality Shines Bright

Pretty much any time of day, you might be surprised to see how long the line at Round Rock Donuts is (and how fast customers get through it). The staff at Round Rock Donuts is always focused on efficiency for customers, but not by “rushing and herding anyone through.” The same innovation that created their iconic donut was used to ensure a smooth flow of traffic, while giving customers a great experience filled with true Texas hospitality to go along with their morning (or afternoon) treats.
The next time you wake up with a sweet tooth, have a hankering for an afternoon pick-me-up, or are in need of a gigantic donut, Round Rock Donuts looks forward to seeing you.
